The MIPLA Education Committee (Dan BruzzoneMary Susan Gerber, and Julie Griep) are excited to share with you the opportunity to attend a complimentary Ethics CLE on Tuesday, October 24th, hosted by LegalCORPS in conjunction with Pro Bono Week. LegalCORPS will hold an informative discussion about ethical considerations with the use of ChatGPT in your practice.

The CLE will run from 3:30-4:30 p.m. and will be followed by a moderated panel of a few of LegalCORPS’ economic development center partners, who will discuss their work with the entrepreneurial ecosystem and ethical considerations that can arise in their service provision.

New technology tools bring new challenges for lawyers. This CLE will explore ChatGPT and the ethical obligations of lawyers. We will discuss lawyer competency (Rule 1.1), the unauthorized practice of law (Rule 5.5), confidentiality (Rule 1.6) and the future of lawyering. We will discuss the potential advantages and disadvantages of the use of ChatGPT in the practice of law using real life examples to demonstrate how the ethics rules interplay with this new technology. This CLE will be immediately followed by a moderated-panel discussion that will feature three of our economic development center partners: Red Wing Ignite, the Initiative Foundation, and LEDC. Panelists will share "on the ground" information on the services they are delivering and to whom, where there are gaps in service, and the ethical considerations that their organizations regularly make. 1.0 CLE ethics credit has been applied for. Please click here to register for the CLE.

The program will be followed by the annual LegalCORPS Volunteer Appreciation reception from 5:00-6:00 p.m. so that their staff can personally thank dedicated volunteers who are so generous with their time and expertise. The entire event will be held at Target Plaza Commons in downtown Minneapolis and is open to all. Please click here to register for the reception.

Thank you,
